Thanks so much to Fatin for inviting me over for another visit! I always love to stop by Novel Thoughts when I have a new book out. My most recent release is Hoping for Love, book 5 in my McCarthys of Gansett Island Series. Here’s a little bit about the book:
All her life, Grace Ryan was the “fat girl.” Taunted and teased and ignored by her peers, she tried every diet ever invented to no avail. Desperate to change her life as her twenties slipped away, she decided it was time for drastic measures and had lap-band surgery. More than a year later, she’s lost 130 pounds and is venturing into the dating world for the first time. During a boat trip to Gansett Island with the new guy in her life, Grace refuses to have sex with him and finds herself abandoned without a dollar to her name at McCarthy’s Gansett Island Marina.
At home for the summer awaiting the launch of his debut CD, music star-in-the-making Evan McCarthy is performing at the Tiki Bar when he notices Grace looking lost in a sea of happy people. Evan comes to her aid and quickly finds himself smitten. But the last thing Grace needs after all she’s been through is a guy who “doesn’t do relationships.” Will Evan change his ways to win Grace’s heart?
With the fifth book now on the e-shelves, I get a lot of questions about what’s next for the McCarthys, so I thought I’d take this chance to answer some of those questions.
So, what’s next for the McCarthys? (LOL)
In the sixth book, Season for Love, we’ll put the spotlight on McCarthy cousin Laura McCarthy and her love interest Owen Lawry. In books 4 and 5, Falling for Love and Hoping for Love, Laura and Owen’s romance has been on slow burn, building up to the moment in book 6 when they decide to take a chance on love. The obstacles standing between them are significant—Laura is still technically married to the estranged husband who failed to stop dating after they were married and is expecting his child. Owen is proud of his footloose existence as a traveling musician, working from one gig to the next with no permanent address. Laura fears that a man who loves his freedom as much as Owen does will chafe under the constraints of family life. In addition to Laura and Owen’s love story, Season for Love will give us a taste of winter on Gansett Island as well as an engagement, a wedding and holiday updates with all our earlier couples.
When will Season for Love be available?
I’m aiming for the May-June time frame. Yes, a winter-holiday book out in the early summer. What can I say? It just worked out that way. One of the things I love about publishing these books on my own, is there is no one to tell me, “No, you can’t put a winter-set book out in the summer.” My readers tell me they’ll take the McCarthys any time of the year.
You’re doing something a little different in this series by continuing to give past couples stories in new books. What’s up with that?
Mostly I do it because I know readers love to see happy couples from earlier books living out their happily ever after. We’ve gotten to see Mac and Maddie (from Maid for Love, book 1) get married, have their first child and continue to nurture their romance. They, along with Mac’s parents Big Mac and Linda, are truly the heart and soul of the series, and readers tell me they love to hear more from them.
What comes after Season for Love?
I’m very excited about Tiffany’s book, Longing for Love, which will be book 7 in the series. Tiffany, who is Maddie’s sister, has had an interesting path in the series, from the bitter, smart-mouthed sister looking out for Maddie after Mac came on the scene through a painful divorce and now into a sizzling new romance with Gansett Police Chief Blaine Taylor. Tiffany and Blaine’s romance is going to be hot, hot, hot as is her new business venture in downtown Gansett. I’m really looking forward to writing this one!
And after that?
I’ve got a fun idea for Adam McCarthy, the family’s resident computer geek. Laura’s brother Shane is coming to the island soon, and I’m introducing some new characters in Season that I hope to bring forward in future books. In short, much more ahead for the residents of Gansett Island! The other exciting news is that all five of the Gansett books will soon be available in print. Watch my author page on Amazon for links to the print versions.
You also write the Fatal Series, a romantic suspense series set in Washington, featuring a D.C. police lieutenant who is now married to a U.S. Senator. What’s next for Sam and Nick?
I’m more than a third of the way through book 5, Fatal Attack, and having a lot of fun with it. I’m really digging the mystery in this one and having a lot of fun torturing Sam, as usual. I’ve also got a big plan for book 6, which I’m tentatively calling Fatal Mistake. I always tell readers that I will continue to write Sam and Nick’s story for as long as they enjoy reading it. So far, so good, and I’m having a blast with them!
Today I’m giving away a full set of the McCarthy books (in Kindle, Nook, iPad or Kobo format) to one lucky winner. To be entered to win, let me know what you think about revisiting past couples in new books in a series.
